This site is about one Finison family, which is descended from Lorenz Fineisen, who emigrated from Liptingen, Baden, Germany and settled in Michigan. Other Finison families in the United States, mainly in the Southeast, are unrelated and of Scottish or English descent (also spelled Finnison, Fenison).
Other prominent German branches include Wenzler (Balgheim) (see also the other database Wenzlers of Balgheim on this site), Villing (Böttingen), Ragg/Rackh (Renquishausen), Schleh/Schlee (Durrweiler), Bohnet (Obermusbach), Berner (Hildrizhausen), and Egeler (Nebringen), Rauleder/Rowlader (Münchingen), and Velte (Münchingen). For an overview of the German ancestry see the pedigree trees of Lorenz John Finison and Mary Ann Rowlader.
Other branches of the family tree include Van Aken (Netherlands->New York->Michigan); other New Netherlands families including Westbrook, Van Benschoten, DeWitt, Hornbeck, Decker, and Vernooy; quite a few English Colonial families such as Phelps, Adams, St. John, Hamilton, Clement, Knapp and Hibbard; the German Palatinate Hiesrodt/Heitzrood; Irish Hara; Newman from Leicestershire and Bushell from Warwickshire; and Bennett, Furrow, and Finton.
This tree also now includes my father's ancestry, including White, Cooley, Brannen, Canfield, Collins, and more.
