Wenzlers of Balgheim
14 July 2007 - 6:56:26pm

I created this family tree by taking all of the records found on FamilySearch.org for the surname Wenzler (and the variants Wentzler and Wentzlers, and the spouse forms Wenzlerin and Wentzlerin) in Balgheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. These records are presumably from the Catholic church book in Balgheim, and mainly consist of christening records and marriage records, with some birth and death dates. The christening records contain the parents' names, and marriage records contain the names of the spouses' parents beginning sometime around 1800.

Using these relationships I was able to create quite a few multi-generation linked descendant trees of Wenztlers born around 1700. This was aided by the relative rareness of most names, aside from the most common ones, such as Johannes, Joseph, Mathias, Maria, Anna, etc. In many cases, I was able to merge a spouse in one family with a child in another family even when that persons marriage record did not indicate their parents because the names and dates combined for only one possible match.

There were, however, some cases in which multiple matches were possible, and there were even a few cases of couples with the same names existing within 10 years of each other, which makes it hard or impossible to determine whose children were whose. So, the database is incompletely merged, and there were many families when the records begin, so all Wenzlers are not traced back to one ancestor. There may be people missing because a place was not recorded with their christening record, and I only included records in Balgheim. I noticed this because one of my own Wenzler ancestors was not in the database even though his parents and siblings were. I will try to add these people sometime.
