We are glad to see so many mothers and daughters tonight. We hope youwi ll like our program and that you will find some nice thought to take ho me with you. At this time I would like to introduce our -act mistress f or the evening. She really needs no introduction. I think we all know he r, love her, and revere her, one of our own Rebekah sisters and ateach er for many years. Sister Sarah Swagler. This is indeed a happy occasion and one to which we have all been looking forward to with keen anticipation and a prophecy that the picture ofth is gathering of mothers and daughters will remain in our memory forma ny a long year. Daughters, you are our fondest hopes, we cannot live yo ur lives for you, nor is it wise that we should. But it is a part of pare nt-hood to strengthen and so help you that you can live yourown life supr emely well. There is no better way than to play together as wel as work t ogether. Daughters you can bring home and share your --- (guys?), you m ay be surprised to find that -s is the only way togetall the happiness t here is, out of school, social affairs, and other activities. Often the m ost delightful part of some event is talking itover with mother afterward s, and getting her reaction, the very fact of telling her all about it fix ed the best of it in mind and helpsto make the spirit of the occasion o ur very own. Daughters we know you enjoy good times of course but we also hope youh ave a goal in life and that you will make real use of your times andstren gth to reach that goal always remembering: It isn't the thing you do, dear, It's the thing you leave undone, Which give you a bit of a heartache, At the setting of the sun. The tender word forgotten The letter you did not write The flower you might have sent, dear, are your haunting ghosts tonight. And as we look down the corridors of time let us visualize the ideal wom an each would be. The Daughters may you so govern your life + character t hat you will breathe the breath of life into that ideal, and findthat yo ur dreams will come true. -Carrie Finison |
